Hello and welcome—
While "falling down" seems like an ominous way to move into October, it's something we do metaphorically over and over throughout the day, isn't it?
Think about it: we don't meet a challenge; we miss the opportunity to connect; we dismiss someone or their request out of hand; we barrel ahead at the expense of another. In short, we often sink to the occasion certainly more than once a day.
Sometimes these moments are fleeting and sometimes they can bring us to our knees—when we feel like we're in the throes of utter failure—when we want nothing more to do than to curl up in a ball and stay exactly where and how we are.
And yet, that is not the practice or the way forward. Within the very act of the fall—whether it be a brief tumble or a full fledged face plant—lies the opportunity for change, growth and even healing.
What do we tend to do after the initial shock of being on the ground has worn off? We begin the process of righting Our Selves and coming to standing, don't we? As the classic lyrics say: "Pick yourself up / dust yourself off / start all over again". The key action is coming back into an upright position, isn't it? It's when we don't do that that the practice gets
derailed, we lose our way, and drift into the energy of "failure".
