Are we really in November? How did that happen so quickly / so glacially? At the very least, time has been quite dizzying in all this havoc…
As we're moving toward the end of this year, I've been reflecting on the ways we contribute to our own upset and disappointment. While there can clearly be many contributing factors, I've come to realize that there are two recurring themes that keep us way out of the present moment.
And when we're out of the moment, our practice and all it's rich resources aren't within reach.
How many times have we all let our past impede rather than inform us? by falling into the magical thinking of "another time" that was or might be "just right"? How long have we all pondered that wonderful construct of our imagination to escape the reality at hand?
When we opt for that choice, we're standing at the corner of "Unattended Wounds and Unmet Expectations" (3:34). (Facebook or YouTube).
And while we're lingering there, two things to remember: "wound" is the original meaning of the word "Trauma" (2:16) and the "When / Then" pattern is just another way to delay our process and keep our practice at
bay.
Does this sound familiar?—either the tendency to "leap forward" or "fall backwards"? Does it give you some level of comfort? If so, just what is that quality and how do you bring Your Self back to the present moment? Or is that the ongoing challenge for you?
