Hello—
How is your October going so far?
It's not quite what we'd envisioned when we entered the pandemic many months ago, is it? There were hopeful thoughts of it easing to the point where we might actually be able to celebrate all the coming holidays without so many of the restrictions that have curtailed life up until now.
Alas…not the case, is it?
We're still in the throes and thick of things—searching for a place of calm and reason within this ongoing, relentless storm. And yet, we already have this place quite at hand, don't we?
It's our very own"Sanctuary" (3:09). After all, what is a sanctuary?—a safe place, a refuge to which we can withdraw for quiet, healing, and contemplation. The question is do you have a sanctuary for Your Self—within Your Self? a sanctuary that you can retreat to whenever necessary? Facebook or YouTube.
This notion builds on the foundation of having our own "Internal vs. External Structure" (2:51). Our Internal Structure is our personal history—the wealth of riches we can draw on to guide us. It’s supportive, ongoing and lasting. Conversely, our External Structure is our style—the people, circumstances, and things
we can get caught up in. It’s fleeting and superficial.
Having a place for One's Self also dives more deeply into the difference between being "Alone vs. Lonely" (2:47). Being alone means no one is currently present with us. Being lonely can trigger a sadness because we are alone in a particular moment. Fearful thoughts can then surface—and yet—is that really true? Aren’t you already in good company? Don’t you appreciate the time spent with someone who is always there for and with you?—Your Self?
So the overall question becomes "Do you know how to come home to Your Self?" Can you go within to create your own calm during any storm? Do you truly enjoy and partake of your own company, wisdom and solace? If so, how do you do that? If not, what does that tell you? Share your take by commenting.
