Hello—
and here's to the last weekend of August.
There's a mini lull that can set in and often last through Labor Day, before we hit the ground running into the fall and the last few months of the year. If you're finding Your Self in this lull, enjoy it—and let it help you reset and regroup.
And as you're re/collecting Your Self, let's engage in a little "wordplay", shall we?
What happens when we consider the original meaning of a word? What we learn not only goes far beyond its current definition but also gives us a much deeper insight into Our Selves and our process.
So let’s take three words—common to our vocabulary and behavior—and see what this kind of reframe can teach us:
"ANGR"(not a typo) (3:41)—When we’re willing to see beyond the red faced yelling and insistent foot stomping, the word reflects so much more and allows us see the person “getting angry” in an entirely different light. It can also trigger
an understanding and compassion for them that we hadn't realized.
"Worry"(2:25)—What do we do when we worry? We fret, we brood, we agonize. Yet taking into consideration the word’s history, we also do something that can thwart and intensify the moment we're attempting to navigate.
"Trauma" (2:16)—What is trauma, really? Simply stated, it’s the result of overwhelm—when something happens that we can’t comprehend or reconcile in the moment. Trauma is the lingering aftereffect and when we consider what the word initially meant, tending
to our trauma makes so much sense.
