Hello—
And welcome to June—a month that is meant to represent unity and compassion. Not hardly, from what we've seen over the past few days.
They've been a huge reminder that while we were counting the hours before we could tiptoe back into "normalcy", other wounds that have needed our attention for years have been (re)opened. Now we're in the throes of more than one scourge—at a loss for what to do to overcome both of them and repair the rampant damage that each has done in its own right.
Where to begin? Fits and starts of coming together / being torn apart? Chanting in unity or dissension? Defying health guidelines or laws? Digging in our heels with the right of might on our side? And how do we do this? It almost seems and feels insurmountable at times.
So let's start somewhere—perhaps with the prevalent buzz phrase that has surfaced during the past few months—and immediately reframe it. How many times have we all heard "We will get through this"?—from the media, politicians, medical experts and those of us just grappling with moving from moment to moment. It triggers magical thinking of some time in the future when everything will be "all right". And
yet, it's not only inaccurate but also delays the reality of what's going on.
The truth is that "We are getting through this"—in real time, a moment at a time, a step at a time. This is not some far off destination. We're thrashing our way through this, sometimes well and often not. And yet—we are indeed moving ahead, regardless of how long this process will be and where we'll be at the end of the this stage of it. "Getting Through This" (2:29)—(YouTube Link or Facebook Link)
And how are we "getting through this"?—by accessing our resources and innate abilities. To navigate a moment, we can literally take a moment to Stop. Drop into Our Selves. Breathe. and Be. Can't we? "Drop Into Your Self" (2:15)—(YouTube Link or Facebook Link)
Do you feel the difference of bringing that phrase into the present? And can you drop into Your Self to access what you need to navigate a moment?
