Yes, I'm offering a greeting from Hawaii. There is a method to my madness, I promise.
This month I'd like to touch on two themes that go hand in hand with each other: breathwork and listening. So let's begin with a bit of
breathwork, which interestingly enough, brings us back to aloha…
"Aloha"—we know this to be a lovely greeting or farewell that indicates kindness, compassion and even grace. However, when we delve more deeply into what the syllables of the word itself mean, they can support our ongoing practice in unexpected ways.
'Alo' can be described as being present / facing one another, while 'ha', not surprisingly, is breath. So when we combine the three sounds, we have 'presence of breath'—essential for our very existence.
We can also prompt Our Selves with just that one word—a mini mantra if you will—to keep mindfully breathing and return us to the present moment. Sounds like a win / win to me.
