Hello—
…and welcome!
Today is the Solstice–the longest—or shortest—day of the year, depending on where you live. That's an interesting dichotomy to begin with, isn't it? It's also a reminder that while we might be experiencing one thing, others are dealing with the exact opposite at the same moment. Interesting concept, yes?
Let's begin with the Latin meaning of the word (sun standing still) and look at how it means more that just the beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Yes, it's a celebration of nature and a change of seasons. However, it also represents the yearly peak of enlightenment in our journey inward of self-reflection. This is a lovely moment to bask in the glow of what we've
accomplished and how we're living our intentions, because while it's the longest day of the year with the most light, tomorrow we begin the journey back into the darkness. The process continues, the sun doesn't really "stand still" and with any luck, neither do we…
In the meantime, for this week's videos, I looked at our loaded concept of the word "deadline" and the tendency we have to over-give.
"Deadlines" (2:10)—Too often, we circle back to the original meaning and energy of the word. Once we're aware of that pattern, the "life and death" pressure of a deadline can change dramatically.(YouTube Link or Facebook Link)
"Over-giving" (2:37)—The impetus of over-giving ultimately has very little to do with the actual practice of giving. When we opt for the former over the latter, it can add to the tangle relationships, expectations and outcomes. (YouTube Link or Facebook Link)
