"Don't Let The Old One In"
And so we find Our Selves in the waning days of May...
Time passes. Life unfolds and with any luck, we age. The question becomes how? What is the quality of the process? are we dealing with disease? pain? a chronic condition? Clearly, we don't have total "control" over how all this plays out. We can, however, choose how we respond to what we're moving through.
When we make the choices that keep the 'Old One' out, getting older can be a lot less daunting. I can't tell you how many people I know who've already opened the door and invited that presence in. Because they can't move, maneuver, respond, or react the way they once did, the door has been flung open, and the 'Old One' is quite at
home.
So often, the invitation is just a thought: "I can't"; "it's too hard"; "that's not the way it used to be";"if I do this, something will go wrong, I'll get hurt or be ridiculed;" "they'll think I'm old"; "what's the use at this point?".
Sound familiar? Be mindful that there's a difference between buying into the myths around aging and honoring the age we've become.
It's true. We can't do things the way we once did, so do we capitulate and surrender? or do we adapt, adjust, tweak
and refine our thoughts and actions so that we're still doing these things, just differently.
It's your choice. Just remember that each choice has its consequences.
"Don't Let The Old One In" (2:27). Do you or don't you?
