"Contented Yet Wishing"
Welcome to November...now the pace really picks up until the end of the year.
So let's add some breathing room before the holidays are hard upon us and we get lost in obligations, expectations and comparisons. A quote by Charles Lamb is excellent guidance not only for this time of year but also going forward:
"Contented with little yet wishing for more."
Let's parse this by going to the dictionary: 'contented' means happy and at ease; 'wishing' is having a desire for something. Taken together, we're already happy while making room for something
else or more .
It keeps us grateful for the present moment while also allowing for all the possibilities that are coming our way. It's inclusive and goes way beyond the either / or of having or not.
It's a way to hold the space without leaving it. It invites the energy of 'and': this and that; it acknowledges appreciation without compromise and it gives us agency. A pretty elegant reframe, yes?
Can you be "Contented Yet Wishing"? (2:11)
