"Doctor Your Self Up"
And now we find Our Selves in April, grappling with the last gasps of winter and the start and stop teases of spring. Perfect times for being "under the weather" and needing doctoring of some kind.
But let's use this as a jumping off point and reframe it for our daily
lives—and—not just for the times when we're not feeling well. There are any number of moments throughout our days when we can take a bit of extra care for Our Selves.
This kind of doctoring involves what I call preventive maintenance—another way of reading early road signs so that we only need to make minor adjustments and tweaks, rather than major overhauls. It reminds us to have a hand in our process and wellness by paying attention and staying in the moment.
This goes beyond feeling well or feeling ill. It's a gateway into deeper healing and runs the gamut from a simple shift to a deep dive. It also reinforces the fact that any of the practitioners we work with clearly have an expertise. However, are we not the experts of Our Selves? And if not, what does that tell you?
When we practice this level of self-care, we're not as blindsided when something unexpected arises. We already have resources at hand to immediately meet the moment and support our healing process—be it fleeting or ongoing.
