"Let It Go"
Here's to the beginning of summer for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere—a bit of a formality what with all the scorching heat that has already arrived. It gives new meaning to the phrase "hot under the collar"…
However, let's go back to the idiomatic meaning and consider another way to move through and release tangled emotions. We can use anger as an example. (Remember what the original meaning of the word is.) Like any heated emotion, it can catch us off guard, throw us off our game, and leave us grasping for a way forward. So let's forge one.
What if the next time you find Your Self with your knickers in a twist—be it anger, frustration, impatience—you fill in the blank—you take a moment and help it move through you?
Go old school. Write down all that you're feeling: including lists, words,
imaginary conversations, drawings, doodles—whatever is coming up for you in the moment. Get it all out on the paper. Then literally destroy it by crumpling, tossing, burning, shredding—your choice. It will hasten the release and bring you back to a more neutral place much faster than letting things fester.
Can you "Let It Go" (2:25)?
