"Zip It"
Can you feel it? that rush of the holidays fast approaching? If so, then let's put some practices in place to counter what a fraught time it can be.
While a good place to begin is always with "Table Manners", let's dive a little more deeply and see what other resources we can add, shall we?
Recently, I've developed my own version of a "repetitive stress injury"—and yes, it can be quite taxing from time to time. It's a very simple gesture: I mime zipping my
mouth closed, and I've honed it to the point of it just being a mental reminder vs. a full fledged action.
I call on it when I'm in a situation where anything I might add will only cause upheaval, misunderstandings, hurt feelings, arguments—you know those moments—all of which can
put a severe damper on the festivities.
Want to point out a "better"way to do something? Zip it! Want to convince someone of their "incorrrect" views? Zip it! Want to veto the plans that have been set for some time? Zip it! Want to prove someone "wrong"? Zip it! You get the
idea.
This is not so much about "keeping the peace", but rather taking care of Your Self. Do you really need to jump into murky waters that will only suck you in and weigh you down?
