I thought it might be time to touch on the concept of healing. Note that I say "touch on". It can be such a broad, tangled, multi-layered subject. For our purposes, let's just stay with the notion that healing involves a change that allows for evolution and growth. Let's set aside all the benchmarks and expectations that we can so easily latch onto.
Healing, like all processes, is dimensional and not linear. It's not a step followed by a series of next steps upward until we reach our goal. Rather, it's all over the place: up / down / sideways / backwards / forwards, with stumbles and flails and repeated beginnings. We can so easily forget what healing is truly like.
Then there's the aspect of how we view
other people's healing process. Have you noticed how easy it is for us to set an agenda, and time frame for someone else? How fussed and rattled and even betrayed we can feel when our outline isn't exactly followed and the outcome isn't what we'd planned?
So what if
we come back to the present moment (again) and the task at hand (again) to consider what healing really involves and how we might approach and honor it a bit differently?
There needs to be space around the process, which in turn, allows for all the pieces and players
involved to arrange themselves in their own way in the time frame that is right for them.
